About the Author
John Newport is an author, speaker and social commentator who lives in Tucson with his wife Ann and loves the city and its people. Affectionately known by his friends as “Dr. John”, he holds doctorates in psychology and public health
He is a prolific writer who has published three books (including “The Wellness-Recovery Connection”, Health Communications, Inc., 2004) and over 200 articles focusing on personal and societal wellness, self-help and spirituality. He is also a featured columnist for Counselor magazine.
As a social commentator he frequently contributes letters and opinion pieces addressing pressing social issues to the Arizona Daily Star, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Modern Healthcare, The Therapist and other publications. In the early 2000s, as a political activist, he played a significant role in averting closure of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a major teaching hospital and provider of care for indigent patients residing in the southern portion of Los Angeles County, California.
